When I first started my business, I thought financial success was about making money, plain and simple. What I didn’t realize was that how I managed that money—or didn’t manage it—was just as important as how much I was bringing in. I had financial energy leaks all over the place, and they were draining not just my bank account but my mental and emotional energy as well.

What Are Financial Energy Leaks?

Financial energy leaks are those small, often unnoticed areas where money (and the energy tied to it) slips away. This can be anything from disorganized bookkeeping, late payments, or unclear boundaries with clients. It could also be more subtle—like feelings of guilt or shame around money, or fear that keeps you from making bold financial moves.

For a long time, one of my biggest financial energy leaks was not setting firm boundaries with clients. I’d extend payment deadlines, lower prices when someone asked, and sometimes even do work without charging what I was worth because I felt uncomfortable asking for money. Over time, this drained not just my finances, but my sense of self-worth and confidence in my business.

How to Identify Your Financial Energy Leaks

Here are a few places to look for financial energy leaks in your own life:
  1. Disorganization: If your finances are all over the place—receipts scattered, invoices unpaid, taxes behind—you’re likely losing energy trying to keep track of it all.
  2. Undercharging: If you’re consistently charging less than what your services are worth, you’re leaking energy in the form of lost income and undervaluing yourself.
  3. Unclear Boundaries: Do you have clear payment terms with your clients? If you’re always chasing people for payments or feeling awkward about discussing money, that’s a financial energy leak.
  4. Guilt or Shame Around Money: How do you feel when you think about your finances? If money triggers negative emotions, it can drain your energy even when you're doing well financially.

Healing Financial Energy Leaks

Healing these leaks starts with awareness. When I began to set firmer boundaries around payments, something powerful happened: I felt more energized and more confident. I wasn’t constantly chasing after clients or stressing about overdue invoices, and that freed up my energy to focus on growth, creativity, and new opportunities.

Take a look at your financial world this week. Are there areas where energy is slipping away unnoticed? Identifying those areas is the first step toward sealing the leaks and reclaiming your financial power.
